The JET KTM Suspension Kit XC
KTM Issues:
Hey, I am very excited about the KTM and what they have produced. But of course,
there are several issues with all stock suspension setup and the KTM can definitely use some changes too. The
Ohlins shocks are nice pieces, but they need some serious tweaking to handle great. Here are a few of the
issues
·
Front and rear ride height is too high for good cornering. – Can you
count how many corners there is in an average GNCC course. What if you were to beat another rider through
a corner by 2 feet. 2 feet x 1000 corners = ½ mile per lap!
· The rear No-Link setup provides NO progression. So we have to run either too stiff
for bottom protection or too soft to feel good through the bumps.
· Shock
travel not in the ideal useable range. The rear up travel is pretty good; however, the overall shock travel
is limited which allows the shock to bottom while the frame is way above the ground (i.e. compressed length).
· The front end rolls over or bicycles during corner entry.
· The
front “Main” dual rate spring setup provides too soft of a front package with no adjustment of the 2nd
crossover. Crossover is dictated by upper coil bind only.
· The
springs are not standard size springs which limit the choices of suspension tuners and racers forcing a compromise or creative
thinking.
The JET Conversion kit for the KTM Advantages
We aggressively engineered a package to correct the issues while giving the aggressive rider and racer the most adjustable
suspension package for the best value.
- Increased wheel travel in a useable range both front and rear.
- Corrected ride height front and rear for
awesome cornering. – No we don’t just throw limiters in, that kills your travel.
- Dual rate rear spring setup giving you a progressive rear
suspension. This way we can soften the overall spring rate to allow the rear to squat for rear traction
and feel good through the bumps, ruts and rocks while providing a plusher bottom.
- Modify the front and rear shocks for the use of standard spring sizes
- Use of low friction front sliders.
- Modify the fronts for a perfectly progressive,
fully adjustable triple rate spring setup. We separate the shaft travel into four segments of progression
for you and still allow room for you to fine tune for different track types.
- Customized for your weight and your type of racing.
- Allows great adjustability for different track types.
- The best dollar value suspension.
- The shocks come to you fully fresh and
race ready with new synthetic oil and charged.
Q:
How long does it take?
A:
Typical turn around is 7-10 days – special request can be made by calling us.
Q: How do I get this put on my quad?
A: Easy, just give us a call and ship us your
shocks, we install the JET conversion kit, ship them back to you and you bolt them on.
Q: How much is the cost?
A: The full conversion kit is $999 (sales tax applies to IN residents
7.0%, shipping extra).
Q: Is it extra
to freshen them too?
A:
No, that is included in the cost. We have to completely disassemble them anyway. If
there are any parts that are worn, we will contact you about the costs so your not blindsided.
Q: What do you mean custom?
A: The spring rates, crossovers and compression and
rebound dampening are set to your weight, the spring stack and your style.
Q: Well, I like a slightly stiffer setup than most people my weight
A: Our setting is the
medium point for your weight providing a good balance setup with plenty of adjustability in that range.
Q: Can shocks actually be made too long?
A: Yes and no. Yes…The
shock length and mounting location is what provides your wheel travel. Based on the mounting locations,
the shock length is extremely important to set ride height at a given spring pressure or preload. If the
shock is too long, there may be no pressure holding the spring stack together to get the proper ride height. If
the shock is too short, you have to run way too much preload to get the proper ride height. Compressed
length is next thing to be concerned with is (i.e. where is the frame when the shock bottoms to its limit?). Extended
length if too long can cause several problems in the rear, kicking, front end diving at corner entry etc. NO…front
shock extended length once the ride height is good is not an issue, in fact I prefer a long extension length on the front.
Let’s face it, pulling a wheelie out of a corner is cool and impresses the girls, but when you have to steer
it is no longer cool. A longer extended length allows the front tires to still touch the ground better
giving the rider some steering traction.
Q:
Should I test suspension setup in the mud?
A: Sure, mud races are part of it. Don’t test new suspension in
the mud. Some days I am in a zone and just can fly and others I’m like a stray bullet and bounce
of every tree I see. If you’re not feeling right, go take a break, I don’t suggest you tune
too much, try it later.
Q: Can you get
the new Ohlins fully adjustable TTX shocks for my KTM?
A: break out the wallet...
